Putin Voices reservations Over Proposed 30-Day Ceasefire in Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed reservations about a 30-day ceasefire proposal in Ukraine, emphasizing the need for clarity on its implications, particularly in key regions like Kursk.

During a Thursday press conference, Putin acknowledged that the US-backed proposal was a “great and correct” idea in principle but stressed that multiple aspects required further discussion before an agreement could be reached.

Putin questioned how the ceasefire would be verified and whether it would lead to a long-lasting peace by addressing the root causes of the war. The Kremlin has consistently argued that the Ukrainian government itself is part of the underlying conflict.

Putin also hinted at a possible conversation with US President Donald Trump, but Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov later clarified that no such call was scheduled for Thursday.

Meanwhile, Moscow announced that Russian forces had recaptured Sudzha, the largest town in Kursk previously held by Ukraine. This development could diminish Kyiv’s negotiating leverage as pressure mounts for diplomatic talks.
