Qatar Demand Global Oversight of Israel’s Nuclear Facilities

Qatar has called on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to place Israel’s nuclear facilities under international monitoring, emphasizing the need for transparency and compliance with global non-proliferation standards.

In an official statement, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged Israel to subject all its nuclear sites to IAEA inspections and become a signatory to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). The demand follows a high-level meeting in Vienna between Qatar’s ambassador, Jassim Yaqub, and IAEA officials, where discussions centered on Israel’s nuclear capabilities and ongoing developments in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Ambassador Yaqub highlighted that while all Middle Eastern nations, except Israel, are parties to the NPT and adhere to IAEA agreements, Israel continues to remain outside the treaty’s framework. He reiterated that several international resolutions have called for Israel to join the NPT as a non-nuclear state.

Qatar also condemned Israel’s military operations in the West Bank, restrictions on humanitarian aid to Gaza, and alleged attempts to forcibly displace Palestinian communities.

As a key mediator in the Israel-Hamas ceasefire negotiations, Qatar remains actively engaged in diplomatic efforts to restore stability in the region.
