Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar announced that Qatar has agreed to invest $3 billion in Pakistan, calling Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s recent visits to Saudi Arabia and Qatar highly successful.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Attaullah Tarar highlighted the economic strides achieved during the Prime Minister’s diplomatic outreach, terming meetings with the Saudi leadership particularly fruitful. “The Saudi investment has increased from $2.2 billion to $2.8 billion, and now Qatar is set to bring in an additional $3 billion,” he stated, adding that Pakistan’s economy is steadily stabilizing and attracting new international investments.
According to Tarar, the meeting between Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was conducted in a warm, constructive atmosphere, resulting in significant progress on investment-related Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). He expressed gratitude for Saudi support during Pakistan’s recent IMF negotiations, acknowledging Saudi Arabia as a steadfast partner.
On the Palestinian issue, Tarar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to defending Palestinian rights at the international level. “The Prime Minister’s recent address advocating for Palestine resonated globally, earning widespread applause,” he remarked, affirming Pakistan’s ongoing political, diplomatic, and moral support for the Palestinian cause.
Highlighting Qatar’s interest, Tarar disclosed that Qatar is keen on investing in Pakistan’s IT and technology sectors, with a Qatari delegation expected to visit soon. This strategic investment is anticipated to further enhance Pakistan’s economic stability.
Responding to a question, Tarar criticized Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin for his perceived inefficiency, linking the province’s rising security concerns and recent incidents of terrorism to administrative shortcomings. He assured the public that the federal government is resolute in its commitment to combating terrorism and securing peace for sustained national development.
