Republican Senators Demand Investigation into Signal Leak Scandal

key Republican senators are pushing for an official investigation into the recent Signal leak scandal. Concerns are mounting over potential national security risks after a senior Trump administration official mistakenly added a journalist to an encrypted group chat discussing sensitive military operations in Yemen.

The leaked messages, published by The Atlantic, revealed details about planned airstrikes on Houthi targets, including timing, locations, and weather conditions during the attacks. While National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard and CIA Director John Ratcliffe assured lawmakers that no classified material was compromised, many Republicans remain skeptical.

Senator Roger Wicker, chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee, is leading efforts for a Defense Department investigation, while other lawmakers call for reviews by the Senate Intelligence Committee. Senator Lisa Murkowski criticized the administration, stating, “This is what happens when there’s no oversight.”

National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, responsible for the accidental leak, admitted to the mistake but attacked the journalist involved, calling him “the bottom-scum of journalists”. Despite the controversy, Donald Trump dismissed concerns, labeling the issue “a witch-hunt” and questioning Signal’s security.
