Rescue 1122 Responds to Nearly 197,000 Emergencies, Saves Over 192,000 Lives in January

Punjab Emergency Services Department (Rescue 1122) successfully responded to 196,963 emergencies, rescuing 192,311 victims across the province in January 2025, while maintaining its average response time of 8 minutes. The emergency caseload witnessed a 16.8% increase compared to January 2024.

These statistics were shared by Emergency Services Secretary Dr. Rizwan Naseer during a monthly operational review meeting at the Emergency Services Headquarters on Saturday. The meeting was attended by senior officials from the department, including heads of various operational wings.

Emergency Statistics and Trends

The Provincial Monitoring Officer presented a detailed report on rescue operations, including road traffic crashes, medical emergencies, fires, structural collapses, crime incidents, drowning cases, falls, animal rescues, and maternity-related emergencies.

Key Figures (January 2025 vs. January 2024)

  • Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs): 38,791 incidents were reported in January 2025, a 29% increase from 30,063 cases in January 2024.
  • Fire Incidents: 2,356 fires were reported, marking a 37.3% rise from 1,716 cases last year.
  • Medical Emergencies: 135,191 cases were handled, showing a 12.3% increase from 120,363 in January 2024.
  • Animal Rescue Operations: 722 rescues were conducted, 15.2% higher than the 627 cases in January 2024.
  • Crime Emergencies: 3,132 cases were addressed, reflecting a 22.6% increase from 2,555 cases in January 2024.
  • Other Emergencies: The service also responded to 5,453 maternity emergencies, 5,192 falls/slips, 1,917 occupational injuries, 461 burn cases, 400 electric shocks, 20 structural collapses, and 15 drowning incidents.

Concerns Over Rising Road Accidents

Dr. Rizwan Naseer expressed serious concern over the 401 fatalities caused by 38,791 road traffic crashes in January. He highlighted that 72.3% of these accidents involved motorbike riders.

He urged motorcyclists to adopt road safety measures and instructed District Emergency Officers (DEOs) to educate citizens about safe driving practices, particularly during the ongoing foggy season.

Safety Directives for Citizens

Dr. Naseer emphasized:

  • Avoid parking on roadsides during foggy weather.
  • Control motorcycle speed to reduce fatal crashes.
  • Discourage the use of overloaded tractor trolleys on highways.
  • Ensure proper vehicle lighting, particularly for trucks and buses, to prevent collisions.

Rescue 1122 continues its commitment to providing timely emergency response across Punjab, ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens.
