Romania Committed to Strengthening Relations with Pakistan: Envoy

Romania values Pakistan as a key partner in South Asia and is eager to enhance bilateral cooperation, stated Romania’s Ambassador-designate to Pakistan, Dr. Dan Stoenescu, during a ceremony commemorating the 106th National Day of Romania on Wednesday.

Addressing the attendees, including Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi, Dr. Stoenescu emphasized the long-standing ties between the two nations. He noted that Romania and Pakistan are marking 60 years of diplomatic relations in 2024, a milestone reflecting mutual respect and collaboration across various fields.

“This anniversary reaffirms our commitment to strengthening this enduring partnership and exploring new avenues for cooperation,” he remarked.

The Ambassador reflected on Romania’s Great Union of December 1, 1918, describing it as a cornerstone of the nation’s identity and a testament to its resilience. He underscored that the 106th anniversary celebrates not just Romania’s history but also its dedication to international collaboration and shared global goals.

Dr. Stoenescu highlighted Romania’s active role as a NATO member, contributing to security along the Black Sea and NATO’s Eastern Flank. He reaffirmed Romania’s unwavering support for Ukraine and efforts to promote regional stability.

“Romania is firmly anchored in European and transatlantic democratic values. Our support for the EU accession of Moldova and Ukraine reflects our broader commitment to long-term peace and resilience in the region,” he added.

The Ambassador also stressed the importance of integrating Western Balkan countries into the European Union, recognizing their role in Europe’s prosperity and security.

Both nations are committed to deepening collaboration through the EU-Pakistan framework and multilateral platforms, including the United Nations. Dr. Stoenescu lauded Pakistan’s strategic position in South Asia, emphasizing that enhanced cooperation will bring mutual benefits.
