Kyiv — Russia carried out its second-largest aerial assault since the start of the Ukraine war, unleashing hundreds of drones and missiles overnight. The strikes killed at least 21 people, including four children, and caused significant damage in Kyiv, Ukrainian officials confirmed Thursday.
According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, the youngest victims included children aged 2, 14, and 17. Emergency services worked through the night to rescue survivors from collapsed residential buildings, as images showed widespread destruction in the capital.
The air raids also hit buildings belonging to the European Union and the British Council. In response, both the EU and the UK summoned Russia’s top diplomats in Brussels and London, condemning the strikes as a direct violation of international law.
Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Russia launched 629 aerial weapons in the assault — including 598 drones and 31 missiles.
Yuriy Ihnat, spokesperson for the Air Force, described the barrage as “one of the largest combined attacks on Ukraine since the full-scale invasion began in 2022.”
Russia’s defense ministry claimed the strikes were aimed at military-industrial facilities and air bases in Ukraine, insisting they used “high-precision weapons.”
Despite the heavy bombardment, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Moscow remains “interested in peace talks,” but reiterated that the “special military operation continues.”
The latest attack underscores how drone warfare and missile barrages have reshaped the conflict, leaving Ukrainian cities under constant threat while further straining relations between Russia and Western allies.
