The Russian Foreign Ministry has raised suspicions that Ukrainian intelligence may be connected to the recent killing of Lieutenant General Yaroslav Moskalik, a high-ranking official in Russia’s Armed Forces General Staff.

Speaking on Friday, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, “There are reasons to believe Ukrainian intelligence agencies may be involved, considering General Moskalik’s past involvement in the Minsk Contact Group and Normandy Four negotiations regarding eastern Ukraine.”

Zakharova added that if Ukraine’s role is confirmed, it would underscore what she called “the barbaric and treacherous nature of the Kiev regime,” accusing Ukrainian authorities of intensifying military hostilities and rejecting peace initiatives.
