Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the country’s BRICS chairmanship will continue beyond the recent summit held in Kazan, with several key events scheduled for the remainder of the year.
During a press conference following the summit, Putin stated, “We have felt our partners’ support since we assumed chairmanship. It is not over as the summit ends, with a number of important joint events ahead by the end of the year.” He confirmed that Brazil will take over the chairmanship next year, assuring that Russia will offer all necessary assistance to its Brazilian counterparts.
Emphasizing the importance of collaboration, Putin remarked that BRICS member states will continue to coordinate efforts “in the interests of further expansion of cooperation.” He reinforced the group’s openness, declaring, “BRICS is not a closed format; it is open to everyone who shares BRICS values.”
The Russian leader noted the need for BRICS to respond to the increasing global demand for collaborative efforts and highlighted the potential for expanding the bloc by creating a new category of partner states.
The 16th BRICS Summit, a central event during Russia’s chairmanship, took place from October 22 to 24 in Kazan, where participants adopted the Kazan Declaration. The declaration addresses key themes such as the development of the association, responses to global challenges, and the resolution of regional conflicts. Notably, this summit marked the first participation of new BRICS members: Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, who joined the group earlier this year.
