A Russian cargo ship, Ursa Major, met a tragic fate in the Mediterranean Sea after a mysterious explosion, leaving two crew members missing.
The explosion occurred 57 miles off Spain’s coast while the ship was en route to Vladivostok, carrying two massive cranes onboard. Of the 16 crew members, 14 were rescued in an operation led by Spain’s Maritime Rescue Service. However, efforts to locate the remaining two continue.
Russian authorities, including the embassy in Spain, have launched an investigation into the incident, working closely with Spanish officials to uncover the cause of the explosion. The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed the sinking, adding to the growing uncertainty surrounding the vessel’s demise.
Built in 2009, the Ursa Major was operated by Oboronlogistika, a company affiliated with Russia’s Ministry of Defense. The ship was reportedly a critical component of the logistics supply chain.
