Russian President Putin’s India Visit in December

Moscow/New Delhi — The Kremlin confirmed on Friday that Russian President Vladimir Putin will pay an official visit to India in December 2025, reinforcing Moscow’s deepening ties with New Delhi at a time when Washington has imposed steep tariffs on Indian exports.

According to Kremlin foreign policy advisor Yuri Ushakov, Putin will also meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a regional summit in China on Monday. The leaders are expected to discuss energy cooperation, defense ties, and preparations for the December visit, which Moscow sees as critical for strengthening its partnership with New Delhi.

The announcement follows the United States’ decision to impose 50% tariffs on Indian goods earlier this week, a move ordered by President Donald Trump to punish India for continuing to import Russian oil and weapons despite Western sanctions.

Since losing access to European markets due to sanctions, Russia has redirected energy exports to Asia, with India emerging as one of its largest buyers. New Delhi has defended its purchases, saying global supply disruptions forced a reliance on Russian oil.

Putin still faces an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant, issued in March 2023 over the alleged unlawful deportation of Ukrainian children. However, as India is not a member of the ICC, it has no obligation to act on the warrant, ensuring the Russian leader’s trip will proceed without legal complications.
