Rwandan Foreign Minister Makes Landmark Visit to Pakistan, Inaugurates High Commission
Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Vincent Biruta, arrived in Islamabad on Saturday for an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between Rwanda and Pakistan.
The minister was received at Islamabad International Airport by senior officials from Pakistan’s Foreign Office and Rwanda’s diplomatic mission, marking a warm welcome for the country’s first top-level diplomatic outreach to Pakistan.
Dr. Biruta is set to meet with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and DPM Ishaq Dar to discuss a wide range of areas including regional connectivity, investment, trade and multilateral collaboration.
He will also engage with Senate leadership and other top government figures to explore areas for expanding diplomatic, economic, and technological cooperation.
One of the key highlights of the visit will be the official inauguration of Rwanda’s High Commission in Pakistan — a historic step aimed at institutionalizing the diplomatic presence of Rwanda in South Asia and promoting direct engagement on political and economic fronts.
As part of the visit, Dr. Biruta is expected to hold a roundtable with prominent Pakistani business leaders and trade bodies. The discussions are expected to focus on agriculture, green energy, digital transformation, and youth entrepreneurship — sectors where both countries see untapped potential for mutual growth.
“This visit is more than symbolic. It represents Rwanda’s commitment to building practical partnerships with emerging economies like Pakistan,” a senior diplomat close to the matter said.
This marks the first high-level visit from Rwanda since the formal establishment of diplomatic missions, paving the way for closer people-to-people ties, educational exchanges, and broader South-South cooperation.
Both countries are expected to release a joint statement at the conclusion of the visit, outlining the next steps in what is being hailed as a “new era of partnership.”
