Salima Imtiaz has made history as the first Pakistani woman to be nominated to the ICC International Panel of Development Umpires. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed her nomination on Sunday, marking a significant milestone for women in Pakistan’s cricketing community.
With this nomination, Salima Imtiaz will be eligible to officiate in international women’s matches and ICC tournaments.
In her statement, Salima expressed her pride, saying, “This achievement is not just mine but for every woman aspiring to become a cricketer or umpire in Pakistan.” She hopes her success will inspire other women to pursue their goals in the sport.
Salima is the mother of Kainat Imtiaz, a prominent player in Pakistan’s women’s cricket team, who has represented the country in several international matches.
Reflecting on her career, Salima shared, “I always dreamed of representing my country at the highest level, and while I had opportunities with the Asian Cricket Council, officiating at the international level was always my ultimate goal.”
Salima joined the PCB Women’s Umpire Panel in 2008 and has since officiated in several matches across ACC tournaments. She will now be officiating in the upcoming Pakistan vs. T20 series South Africa women’s starting in Multan.
