Separatist Leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq raised concerns about the “indiscriminate arrests” and the destruction of homes
Report By Safarti Tarjuman International Desk
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, has strongly condemned the recent Pahalgam attack, calling it a horrific act and stressing the need to bring its perpetrators to justice. However, the prominent separatist leader has raised concerns about the “indiscriminate arrests” and the destruction of homes in the aftermath of the attack.
In a post shared on social media platform X, Farooq expressed his dismay at the disturbing scenes circulating on social media, showing the demolition of homes and the arrest of individuals without clear justification. He highlighted that while justice for the victims is crucial, authorities must be careful not to target innocent Kashmiri families.
Call for Justice Without Collective Punishment
Farooq urged the authorities to ensure that efforts to seek justice for the victims of the attack should not result in collective punishment for innocent civilians in Kashmir. He emphasized that these measures only further exacerbate the suffering of the common people who are already enduring the repercussions of violence and unrest.
“I urge the authorities, that in seeking justice for the innocent victims, not to punish innocent Kashmiri families,” he added in his post.
His comments reflect ongoing concerns among many in the region about the broad and often disproportionate measures taken by authorities in response to security incidents. The call for a balanced approach seeks to ensure that justice is done without infringing on the rights and dignity of the larger Kashmiri population.
Farooq’s statements come amid heightened tensions and security concerns in the region, and his call for restraint in handling the aftermath of the attack resonates with many who advocate for peaceful and fair treatment of Kashmir’s people during times of conflict.
