KABUL — Sheikh Dr. Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL) and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, concluded a significant visit to Kabul this week. The trip marked a historic step toward religious collaboration, intergovernmental dialogue, and solidarity within the Muslim world.

Upon arrival, Sheikh Al-Issa was welcomed by Deputy Prime Minister Maulvi Abdul Salam Hanafi, who hosted him at the Arg Palace for a formal reception. In their meeting, Hanafi praised MWL’s support for Afghanistan’s progress in national security, stability, and reconstruction, while Sheikh Al-Issa reaffirmed the MWL’s dedication to Islamic cooperation and shared values.

The MWL delegation also held high-level talks with Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hasan Akhund at Gul Khana Palace, where the focus was on religious dialogue, education reform, and Afghanistan’s pivotal role in the global Muslim community. As a gesture of goodwill, Sheikh Al-Issa presented the Prime Minister with a ceremonial Kaaba Kiswah, symbolizing unity and spiritual connection.

In a series of important discussions, Sheikh Al-Issa met:

  • Foreign Minister Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi, to discuss the Makkah Document, Charter for Inter-Sectarian Dialogue, and the MWL’s efforts to promote tolerance, justice, and jurisprudential harmony.
  • Interior Minister Khalifa Sirajuddin Haqqani, where the conversation focused on counter-extremism, emphasizing that Islamic unity is vital to defeating division and sectarianism.

Together, they reaffirmed the need to empower Muslim scholars in promoting peace and resisting ideologies that distort Islam’s message.
