Sherbrooke Students Visit Pakistan’s Mission to the UN for Diplomatic Briefing
A delegation of 18 law students from the Université de Sherbrooke, Canada, visited Pakistan’s Mission to the United Nations (UN) in New York for a comprehensive briefing on Pakistan’s foreign policy and its role in international diplomacy.
The students, from the Faculty of Law, were welcomed by Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, who provided an insightful overview of Pakistan’s foreign policy priorities. Ambassador Jadoon discussed the country’s pivotal role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), its contributions to UN peacekeeping missions, and efforts to combat Islamophobia. He also shared Pakistan’s perspectives on the future of multilateralism and engagement with the UN system.
Following the briefing, the delegation engaged in an interactive Q&A session, where the students raised important questions on various global issues. Topics discussed included peace and security, women’s rights, the effectiveness of confidence-building measures, water resource management, and the ongoing situations in Gaza and Jammu & Kashmir. Students also inquired about reforms within the UN Security Council.
Ambassador Jadoon commended the students for their keen interest in international relations and diplomacy. He emphasized the importance of participating in global dialogues and encouraged them to engage actively in the upcoming Model United Nations (MUN), noting that it serves as an excellent platform for developing diplomatic skills and critical thinking.
The visit not only deepened the students’ understanding of Pakistan’s diplomatic priorities but also underscored the country’s commitment to fostering educational initiatives that promote global governance and multilateral cooperation.
