Shin Bet Officer Detained Over Alleged Classified Information Leak to Journalist and Minister

A high-ranking officer from Israel’s domestic security agency, Shin Bet, has been formally arrested and indicted for allegedly leaking sensitive classified material to unauthorized individuals, including a journalist and a senior government minister.

The indictment, filed with the Lod District Court, accuses the officer of breaching national security laws and compromising state confidentiality protocols. Two civilians have also been indicted in the case for receiving and further sharing the confidential information. Due to the sensitive nature of the case, a court-issued gag order currently prevents the publication of names and detailed specifics.

Authorities say the leaked intelligence had the potential to jeopardize ongoing operations and posed a serious threat to public safety. Investigators emphasized that the motive behind the leak does not appear to be espionage or direct harm to the state, but the unauthorized disclosure remains a severe breach of protocol.

The joint investigation was conducted by Shin Bet and Israeli Police, who have since confirmed that national security may have been significantly compromised. Officials are now working to determine the full scope of the leak and whether any additional individuals may have been involved.

The officer in question is believed to have accessed and distributed the material over several months. The shared intelligence reportedly included sensitive operational data that could have endangered lives if exploited.
