South Korea has inaugurated its first Holocaust museum in the city of Paju, marking a significant step toward promoting Holocaust education and standing in solidarity with the global Jewish community.

Established by the Korea Israel Bible Institute (KIBI), a Christian Zionist organization, the museum aims to preserve the memory of the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust and educate the public on the dangers of hatred, antisemitism, and genocide. The opening ceremony was attended by government officials, international diplomats, and Jewish community representatives, including Israel’s Ambassador to South Korea, Rafi Harpaz.

According to KIBI, the museum presents a comprehensive exhibition exploring the Holocaust, the history of the Jewish people, and the foundation of the State of Israel. The displays include testimonies, photographs, and historical artifacts intended to foster deeper understanding and empathy among visitors.

Professor Song Man Seok, a leading member of KIBI and the driving force behind the museum, emphasized the urgency of its mission: “Following the events of October 7, we observed a disturbing increase in hostility toward Israel and the Jewish people—even here in South Korea. This museum is our response, a commitment to educate future generations and to express our unwavering support for the Jewish people.”

Since the establishment of formal diplomatic ties in 1962, South Korea and Israel have built strong relations through trade, education, and cultural exchange. Jewish heritage has long been respected in South Korean society, with Jewish studies integrated into some academic institutions.

The Holocaust museum in Paju is expected to serve as a key educational center in Asia, raising awareness of Jewish history and reinforcing the values of tolerance, peace, and remembrance.
