The South Korean opposition has filed an impeachment motion against the President, accusing him of treason. To push the motion through, the opposition requires a two-thirds majority in Parliament.
Adding to the political turmoil, Defense Minister Kim Young-hyun has resigned. The opposition has already begun impeachment proceedings against him, further escalating tensions.
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken dismissed claims of being informed about the President’s martial law decision, stating, “South Korea’s issues should be resolved through legal and parliamentary processes.” Blinken also mentioned plans to speak with his South Korean counterpart soon.
As political uncertainty deepens, both domestic and international observers are closely monitoring the situation.
