Stage Actress Nargis Allegedly Assaulted by Husband; Chief Minister Takes Notice

Pakistani stage actress Ghazala, known as Nargis, has reportedly been the victim of domestic violence at the hands of her husband. The alleged assault took place on Friday, leading to a formal complaint lodged against her husband, Inspector Majid Bashir, at the Defence C police station.

The FIR, filed by Nargis, accuses her husband of physical assault and making death threats with a firearm. Details from the report reveal that Majid Bashir purportedly struck Nargis with a government-issued pistol, dragged her on the ground, and beat her ribs with a stick, subsequently locking her in a room while threatening her life. Nargis reported that her husband was exerting pressure on her to surrender gold, cash, and property documents.

Additionally, the FIR mentions attempts by Bashir to persuade Nargis to invite Maryam, the ex-wife of television host Aftab Iqbal, to their home.

Nargis, who holds Canadian citizenship, had distanced herself from the entertainment scene after her marriage a few years ago to manage a beauty salon.

Responding to the allegations, Hina Parvez Butt, Chairperson of the Women Protection Authority, announced that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has swiftly intervened in the matter.

Sharing a video of her meeting with Nargis on social media, Butt highlighted the Chief Minister’s commitment to addressing the issue. She condemned such acts of violence and assured the public that Nargis would receive the justice she deserves.
