Stanford University Welcomes MWL Secretary-General Dr. Al-Issa for Groundbreaking Lecture

Stanford University in California hosted His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL) and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, for a distinguished lecture entitled “Values in the Face of Contemporary Conflicts.” The event drew the participation of academics, students, and esteemed guests, highlighting the importance of Islamic principles in fostering global harmony and addressing ideological challenges.

Dr. Al-Issa explored how ideological conflict—both religious and intellectual—can undermine societal unity if not approached through a lens of mutual respect and understanding. He emphasized the value of embracing constructive diversity and warned against the danger of rigid dogmas that fuel division. Stressing the importance of interfaith collaboration and cultural coexistence, he outlined how shared values can serve as a bridge between communities.

The lecture also delved into emerging global issues such as the digital economy, artificial intelligence, and economic ethics. In a vibrant discussion with Silicon Valley entrepreneurs and executives, Dr. Al-Issa addressed how Islamic economic teachings align with modern challenges, advocating for ethical AI development and global charitable efforts to alleviate poverty.

He further clarified core Islamic concepts, shedding light on their enduring relevance and legislative wisdom. He presented actionable models rooted in Islamic values, urging a deeper understanding of justice, compassion, and solidarity as essential tools to confront contemporary crises. The talk also included a concise evaluation of international and humanitarian law, emphasizing their role in ensuring global justice.

The event culminated in an engaging dialogue session, allowing participants to ask questions, share feedback, and reflect on the lecture’s key themes. The interactive format enriched the academic experience and facilitated deeper understanding.

Following the lecture, twenty-five Stanford students showcased projects focused on the global application of the Charter of Makkah. These initiatives were part of the “Establishing Muslim Life” academic program, inspired by the students’ spiritual journey to Makkah during Ramadan and their performance of Umrah. Project themes ranged from environmental stewardship and counter-extremism to promoting interfaith understanding and addressing global humanitarian challenges.
