Suicide Attack at Darul Uloom Haqqania Pakistan: Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq Among Five Martyred

 

A powerful explosion occurred during Friday prayers at the renowned Darul Uloom Haqqania Akora Khattak in Nowshera, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulting in the martyrdom of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (S) leader Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq and four others, while over 20 people sustained injuries.

Inspector General (IG) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed confirmed that the attack was a suicide bombing, specifically targeting Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq. Security forces and law enforcement agencies have begun their investigations, while hospitals in Nowshera have declared an emergency to treat the injured.

According to police reports, the explosion took place during Friday prayers, causing panic among worshippers. Rescue teams and police immediately arrived at the scene, cordoning off the area to prevent further threats.

The incident has drawn strong condemnation from national leaders:

  • President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the bombing, praying for the martyrs’ souls and the swift recovery of the injured, while emphasizing that such cowardly acts cannot weaken the nation’s resolve.
  • Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered an immediate report on the incident and directed authorities to provide the best possible medical aid to the injured. He asserted that terrorist activities will not deter Pakistan’s commitment to eradicating extremism.
  • Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz called the blast an act of blatant terrorism, reaffirming that the nation stands united in the fight against extremism.
  • Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi expressed sorrow over the attack and termed it a conspiracy by anti-Pakistan forces, urging strict action against those responsible.

The attack comes at a time when terror-related incidents are increasing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Security agencies have already issued warnings regarding potential threats, prompting enhanced security measures across sensitive areas, mosques, and religious institutions.

Pakistan’s leadership and military have reiterated their commitment to eliminating terrorism from the country. Following the blast, security across the country has been heightened, ensuring strict vigilance at key locations to prevent further attacks.
