The Supreme Court has scheduled the hearing for review petitions related to the interpretation of Article 63-A of the Constitution for September 30. The review concerns the decision regarding the disqualification of lawmakers who vote against their party’s policy.
The bench will include Justice Muneeb Akhtar, Justice Ameen-ud-Din Khan, Justice Jamal Mandokhail, and Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel.
In a separate development, a five-member larger bench has been formed for the audio leak case, likely to be heard next week. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah will lead the bench, which also includes Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Ameen-ud-Din Khan, Justice Jamal Mandokhail, and Justice Musarrat Hilali. Justice Muneeb Akhtar has been excluded from this bench due to his involvement in the audio leak controversy.
It is important to note that Justice Muneeb Akhtar authored the majority opinion in the Article 63-A case, ruling that lawmakers defying party directives would have their votes disregarded and face potential disqualification.
