Syria Implements New Constitutional Declaration for Transitional Governance
Syrian Interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa has signed a new constitutional declaration, outlining a five-year transitional period aimed at restructuring governance and ensuring fundamental rights.
The declaration follows the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s regime three months ago, leading to the repeal of the previous constitution and dissolution of parliament.
Under the new framework, a Transitional Justice Commission will be established to ensure accountability, while women’s rights, freedom of expression, and judicial independence are formally recognized.
The transitional government will oversee legal and political reforms, with a people’s assembly playing a role in legislation. A supreme electoral committee will be formed to manage upcoming elections.
The declaration, which immediately comes into effect, marks a shift toward a new political structure for Syria, with efforts underway to draft a permanent constitution.
