TYRE, Lebanon — Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah escalated further on Saturday as Israeli drone strikes killed three people in southern Lebanon, according to Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health. The attacks occurred in the Tyre district, in violation of the ongoing ceasefire agreement.
The first strike targeted a vehicle, killing one person. The Israeli military later claimed responsibility, stating it had “struck and eliminated a Hezbollah operative” believed to be working to rebuild the group’s network near Bint Jbeil, a flashpoint area close to the Israeli border.
While the Israeli army did not confirm the exact location of the strike, Lebanese officials identified the target as being inside the Tyre district.
A second airstrike in the town of Debaal, also within Tyre district, killed two more civilians, Lebanon’s health ministry confirmed. The state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported that the target was a residential house, raising fears of civilian casualties amid rising regional tensions.
The identities of the victims have not been officially released, and investigations into the full extent of the damage are ongoing.
These attacks come despite a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, underscoring the volatile nature of the Lebanese-Israeli border region. Bint Jbeil and surrounding areas have long been strongholds for Hezbollah and frequent targets of Israeli air operations.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) claimed the targeted individual was involved in reviving Hezbollah’s presence in southern Lebanon, justifying the strike as a “preemptive measure against future threats.”
Lebanese authorities, however, have condemned the attacks, citing them as clear violations of Lebanese sovereignty and international ceasefire agreements.
