Top UK, EU, Ukraine Diplomats Postpone London Meeting Following US Absence
Report By Safarti Tarjuman International Desk
A high-level diplomatic meeting scheduled to take place in London on Wednesday among the foreign ministers of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Ukraine has been postponed.
The decision comes after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio withdrew from the event at the last moment, according to a report by Sky News.
The discussions, initially planned as a full ministerial dialogue, will now be held at the senior officials’ level, involving representatives from the five nations. The United States, a key stakeholder in the diplomatic engagement, was expected to participate in the meeting, but Rubio’s last-minute decision to forgo travel prompted the format change.
Despite the postponement, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrey Sibiga is still expected to be in London, where he is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy. The one-on-one talks are anticipated to focus on continued UK support for Ukraine amid ongoing regional instability and defense cooperation.
While no official reason has been disclosed for the US Secretary’s absence, the shift reflects evolving dynamics in Western diplomatic coordination regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and broader geopolitical challenges in Europe.
Observers note that discussions among the senior-level officials will likely cover the same strategic topics, including security aid, economic reconstruction, and diplomatic alignment against rising global tensions.
