Tragic incident: JUI Leader Killed in Firing During Taraweeh in Baluchistan, Pakistan
A tragic incident unfolded in Pakistan Baluchistan’s Kech district, where unidentified assailants opened fire inside a mosque, killing Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) leader Mufti Shah Mir Bizenjo during Taraweeh prayers.
According to Turbat Police, the attack took place on Friday night at a mosque in the Malikabad area, the district headquarters of Kech. Witnesses stated that Mufti Shah Mir was standing in the first row behind the Imam when armed men entered and opened fire. The Imam was also injured, and chaos erupted inside the mosque as worshippers tried to escape.
Mufti Shah Mir Succumbs to Injuries
The injured were rushed to Government Teaching Hospital Turbat, where doctors confirmed that Mufti Shah Mir had sustained fatal bullet wounds to his head and jaw. Despite medical efforts, he could not survive.
Assailants Flee, Investigation Underway
Following the attack, the gunmen managed to escape from the scene. Law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation, but no arrests have been made so far.
Previous Assassination Attempts
Mufti Shah Mir Bizenjo was a prominent religious scholar and served as the General Secretary of JUI Turbat. This was not the first attempt on his life, as he had previously survived two assassination attempts.
Past Allegations and His Last Speech
In August 2023, Mufti Shah Mir was accused of involvement in the killing of a private school teacher over blasphemy allegations, which he had denied.
Notably, just hours before his assassination, he addressed a protest in Turbat condemning the recent killing of JUI leaders in Khuzdar. In his speech, he alleged that religious scholars and JUI leaders were being systematically targeted.
Series of Attacks on JUI Leaders in Balochistan
This incident is the latest in a series of attacks on JUI leadership in Balochistan. Just days ago, Wadera Ghulam Sarwar Musiani and another JUI leader were shot dead in Khuzdar by unidentified gunmen.
Authorities have heightened security measures in the region, and investigations are ongoing. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
