U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly proposed turning Gaza into a “freedom zone” during private discussions in Qatar, as the death toll from Israeli airstrikes surpassed 80 in just two days of intensified bombing. Trump’s comments came amid renewed diplomatic efforts and mounting global concern over the humanitarian situation in the besieged Palestinian enclave.

The latest round of Israeli strikes targeted multiple areas across Gaza overnight, marking the second consecutive night of heavy bombardment. Local health authorities confirmed at least 83 fatalities and dozens more injured, as residential buildings, schools, and civilian infrastructure were struck. The Israeli Defense Forces claim the attacks are in response to continued rocket fire from Hamas and other militant factions.

Speaking in Doha during unofficial talks, Trump suggested transforming Gaza into an internationally supported “freedom zone,” aimed at stabilizing the region through economic development and security cooperation. Though the idea remains vague, sources close to Trump say he is positioning himself as a potential peace negotiator if he returns to the presidency.

The ongoing Israeli offensive has drawn sharp criticism from international humanitarian organizations, which warn of an impending catastrophe if hostilities continue. Over 1.5 million people in Gaza remain displaced, with critical shortages of water, food, and medical supplies.

In a statement, the United Nations called for an immediate ceasefire and unrestricted humanitarian access. UN Secretary-General António Guterres described the situation as “a human tragedy unfolding in real time,” urging all sides to prioritize civilian lives.
