Trump Implements Order: U.S. Stops Issuing Passports for ‘X’ Gender Individuals
The United States has officially halted the issuance of passports for individuals identifying as “X” gender, a category previously recognized for non-binary, intersex, and gender-nonconforming individuals. This decision comes in compliance with a new executive order signed by President Donald Trump, reaffirming the recognition of only two biological sexes: male and female.
A spokesperson for the U.S. State Department confirmed that individuals whose identification documents display an “X” gender marker will no longer be eligible for a U.S. passport.
> “Applications for passports with an ‘X’ gender classification have been suspended indefinitely. Further guidance regarding previously issued passports under this category will be provided soon on the State Department’s official website.”
Shortly after taking office on January 20, 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing all federal agencies to recognize only two genders—male and female—based on biological sex at birth.
the United States government official policy will be to recognize only two sexes: male and female. This decision is rooted in biological reality, not ideology.”
Additionally, he announced that federal funds will no longer be allocated to programs that promote gender ideology.
