U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating that a full-scale invasion of Ukraine would ultimately lead to the collapse of Russia. The comments came late Sunday in a strongly worded message on Trump’s Truth Social platform following a devastating weekend of Russian missile and drone strikes on Ukrainian cities.

Trump, while emphasizing his historically “very good relationship” with Putin, expressed alarm over Russia’s intensified military aggression. “Something has changed with Putin—he’s gone completely CRAZY,” Trump wrote. “This is not just about soldiers; many innocent people are dying for no reason.”

Trump’s comments came after Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized the U.S. for its “silence” following Russia’s most intense aerial assault in three years, which included over 298 drones and 69 missiles. The weekend attacks left at least 12 civilians dead, including three children, and caused widespread destruction across Ukrainian cities as the country marked Kyiv Day.

Pressed by reporters on potential new sanctions, Trump signaled openness, saying, “Absolutely. He’s killing a lot of people. What the hell happened to him?”

In the same post, Trump also criticized Zelenskyy, warning the Ukrainian leader to change his tone. “Everything out of his mouth causes problems, I don’t like it, and it better stop,” he said.

Zelenskyy had earlier urged new sanctions against Moscow, calling each Russian strike “reason enough” for further penalties. However, Trump declined to impose additional sanctions this week, resisting pressure from Kyiv and European allies seeking a 30-day ceasefire as a prelude to peace negotiations.

The White House’s current stance is under scrutiny, with critics pointing to a disconnect between Trump’s campaign promises—claiming he could end the war in 24 hours—and the reality of Russia’s escalating aggression.

Ukrainian presidential chief of staff Andriy Yermak warned that without stronger international pressure, Moscow would continue to escalate. “Russia and its allies will only build up forces for such murders in western countries,” he posted on Telegram.

As diplomatic efforts stall and violence surges, Trump’s remarks have reignited debate over America’s role in curbing Russian aggression and supporting Ukrainian sovereignty.
