Washington — US President Donald Trump has predicted that the ongoing Israel-Gaza war will come to a “conclusive ending” within the next two to three weeks, even as Israel rejects a ceasefire plan accepted by Hamas and intensifies its military campaign in Gaza City.
Speaking during a bilateral meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung at the White House, Trump told reporters:
“I think within the next two to three weeks, you’re going to have a pretty good, conclusive ending… It’s a hard thing to say because they’ve been fighting for thousands of years. But I think we’re doing a very good job.”
Trump’s remarks come as Israel dismisses the phased ceasefire proposal recently accepted by Hamas. Instead, Israel is advancing with plans to take control of Gaza City, a process analysts say could take months.
The president has often cited a two-week window for global developments — from the Russia-Ukraine war to Iran nuclear negotiations — though such predictions have rarely come true. This time, Trump stressed that while “nobody can forget October 7,” the conflict must end to prevent worsening humanitarian conditions.
When asked about US diplomatic efforts, Trump said there has been “a very serious push.” Secretary of State Marco Rubio reinforced Washington’s alignment with Israel’s position, stating the war could only end once Hamas is fully dismantled.
Special envoy Steve Witkoff claimed Trump’s Truth Social post last week, linking hostage releases to Hamas’s defeat, had influenced the stalled negotiations. However, Arab diplomats told The Times of Israel that Hamas had already approved the ceasefire proposal before Trump’s statement.
The conflict has intensified humanitarian suffering, with a UN-backed report warning of famine conditions in Gaza. Trump asserted the US had provided $60 million in humanitarian aid, though the State Department clarified only $30 million had been allocated, with half disbursed through the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.
“Between the hunger, death, and devastation, it’s got to get over with,” Trump said, adding that Gaza’s future must be settled soon.
