Washington — U.S. President Donald Trump has pressed Israel to accelerate its planned military operation in Gaza, arguing that a quicker offensive would help bring the prolonged conflict to a close.
During a private meeting on Middle East policy and security, Trump told attendees he has been urging Israeli leaders to “hurry up” with their strategy in Gaza, warning that delays are worsening both the humanitarian crisis and global instability.
“The longer this war drags on, the more people suffer. I’ve told Israel they need to move fast so peace and stability can return,” Trump said.
Trump criticized Israel’s slow-paced approach to the war, claiming that hesitation risks prolonging civilian suffering in Gaza and diminishing international support. He argued that only a decisive military campaign could weaken Hamas and pave the way for negotiations.
Humanitarian groups, however, continue to warn that Israel’s expanded assault on Gaza — particularly in densely populated areas like Gaza City — will worsen the crisis. Severe food shortages, mass displacement, and civilian casualties have already been reported.
Despite these warnings, Trump maintained that ending the war quickly was the best path to relief for both Israelis and Palestinians.
Trump’s remarks highlight a sharp contrast with the Biden administration, which has supported Israel’s security operations but repeatedly urged restraint and humanitarian access. While Biden has sought a balance between support for Israel and aid for Palestinians, Trump is promoting a more aggressive stance, calling for immediate military resolution.
