Trump Removes National Security Adviser Waltz, Appoints Marco Rubio as Successor
Report By Safarti Tarjuman International Desk
US President Donald Trump has dismissed National Security Adviser Michael Waltz and appointed Senator Marco Rubio as his replacement, marking a major shake-up in the administration’s national security leadership.
Waltz’s removal was confirmed by White House officials late Thursday evening. No official reason has been provided for the abrupt change, but sources close to the matter cited growing disagreements over foreign policy strategies, particularly regarding Iran and China.
Senator Marco Rubio, a key Republican figure and current vice chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, has accepted the new role. Known for his hawkish stance on foreign policy and strong positions on China, Cuba, and Iran, Rubio is expected to bring a more assertive approach to national security.
President Trump praised Rubio’s appointment in a post on Truth Social, stating:
“Marco is a true American patriot with the strength and vision needed to defend our nation. He will do an outstanding job keeping America safe and respected around the world.”
Rubio’s appointment does not require Senate confirmation. He is expected to formally assume duties at the National Security Council early next week.
