Trump Slams Indian Missile Strikes on Pakistan; UN Urges Immediate De-escalation
Report by Safarti Tarjuman International Desk
U.S. President Donald Trump has condemned India’s recent missile strikes on Pakistan, calling the aggression “a shame,” and expressed hope that the military escalation between the two countries would end swiftly.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump addressed the situation, saying, “It’s a shame. We just heard about it as we were walking into the Oval Office.” Referring to the long-standing hostility between India and Pakistan, he added, “They’ve been at odds for a long time. I really hope this situation de-escalates quickly.”
The Indian strikes, which targeted multiple locations across Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, have been described by New Delhi as retaliation for an April 22 attack in Indian-occupied Kashmir. India claimed a Pakistani link to the incident, a charge Pakistan has firmly rejected.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reacted strongly to the development, declaring that India’s actions amount to an act of war. “Pakistan reserves every right to defend its sovereignty, and we are delivering a strong and calculated response,” he stated. “Our armed forces and citizens are united and determined to protect our homeland. The enemy’s intentions will not succeed.”
In response to the growing crisis, the United Nations has voiced serious concern. At a press briefing in New York, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said Secretary-General António Guterres is deeply worried about the hostilities. “The Secretary-General is very concerned about the Indian military actions across the Line of Control and the international border,” Dujarric stated.
