Trump Urges Ceasefire Cancellation If Hamas Fails to Release Hostages by Saturday

U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that the ongoing ceasefire between Israel and Hamas should be revoked if the Palestinian militant group does not release all remaining hostages by midday on Saturday. However, he acknowledged that the final decision rests with Israel.

Speaking to reporters on Monday after signing a series of executive orders, Trump issued a stark warning, saying, “If they’re not here, all hell is going to break out.” He also expressed concerns that many of those scheduled for release may already be dead.

Trump’s Stance on the Israel-Hamas Ceasefire

While making his stance clear, Trump reiterated that his comments were personal, stating, “I’m speaking for myself. Israel can override it.” His remarks add further uncertainty to the fragile ceasefire, which has persisted for 15 months amid high tensions in the region.

The ceasefire deal, structured around the release of hostages and humanitarian assistance to Gaza, could face further challenges following Trump’s statement. His words may also affect ongoing negotiations regarding aid, reconstruction efforts, and diplomatic relations in the Middle East.

Tensions Over U.S. Policy on Gaza

Trump’s comments come shortly after he suggested in a Fox News interview that Palestinians in Gaza would not have a right to return under his administration’s vision for U.S. “ownership” of the territory. This statement contradicts positions taken by other officials in his government, who have framed the idea as a temporary relocation rather than a long-term displacement.

The remarks have sparked further controversy as Trump increases pressure on Arab nations—particularly U.S. allies Jordan and Egypt—to take in Palestinians displaced by the conflict.

Threat to Withhold Aid from Jordan and Egypt

When asked whether he would consider withholding financial aid from Jordan and Egypt if they refused to accept Palestinians, Trump responded, “Yeah, maybe. Sure. Why not?” He further elaborated, saying, “If they don’t agree, I would. I would conceivably withhold aid, yeah.”

Geopolitical Implications

Trump’s statements have raised concerns about the stability of diplomatic efforts in the region. The ceasefire, brokered with international mediation, remains a critical part of efforts to de-escalate the ongoing conflict. Any shift in U.S. policy could have profound implications for relations with Middle Eastern allies and the broader geopolitical landscape.
