Turkish Consul General Meets Punjab Minister Ramesh Singh Arora

Lahore — Punjab Minister for Minority Affairs Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora held a key meeting with the Consul General of the Republic of Türkiye, Dr. Durmuş Baştuğ, at his camp office in Lahore on Wednesday. The discussion focused on enhancing bilateral relations, promoting interfaith harmony, and fostering cultural and educational collaboration between Pakistan and Türkiye.

The two dignitaries praised the deep-rooted religious, historical, and cultural ties between the people of both nations. They expressed a shared commitment to strengthening people-to-people connections and expanding cooperation across key sectors, including education, religious tourism, and cultural exchange programs.

Minister Arora acknowledged Türkiye’s continued support for Pakistan and lauded Ankara’s progressive role in promoting interfaith tolerance and coexistence. He briefed the Consul General on Punjab Government’s inclusive policies under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, highlighting efforts to protect minority rights and promote a harmonious, respectful, and pluralistic society.

Consul General Dr. Baştuğ commended the Punjab Government’s initiatives for safeguarding religious minorities and preserving the province’s rich religious heritage. He also expressed interest in further collaboration through capacity-building programs, restoration of cultural landmarks, and forums for interfaith dialogue.

Both leaders emphasized that stronger cultural and educational cooperation can contribute significantly to regional peace, understanding, and tolerance. The meeting also explored plans for launching joint interfaith initiatives, including conferences, youth delegations, and exchanges between scholars and civil society leaders.
