Türkiye Supports Pakistan’s Agricultural Sector with High-Tech Greenhouse

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) has inaugurated a state-of-the-art training and control greenhouse at Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) in Tandojam, showcasing Türkiye’s commitment to enhancing Pakistan’s agricultural capabilities.

Equipped with cutting-edge technology and powered by renewable solar energy, the greenhouse marks a significant step in agricultural innovation and sustainability. The inauguration ceremony was attended by TIKA representatives, SAU officials, and other distinguished guests.

Dursun Ali Yasacan, Head of the East and South Asia Pacific and Latin America Department (DOGAL) at TIKA, highlighted Türkiye’s ongoing efforts to support agricultural development globally, with Pakistan being a key focus. “This modern greenhouse reflects our shared vision of fostering sustainable agriculture and food security,” he said.

Dr. Fateh Marri, Vice-Chancellor of Sindh Agriculture University, praised TIKA’s contributions and longstanding partnership with the institution. “This collaboration, starting in 2022, has already yielded remarkable outcomes, and we are proud to continue working together to address Pakistan’s agricultural challenges,” he stated.

The facility is designed to advance academic research and serve the needs of public institutions and farmers. Its electronic system enables precise control over environmental conditions, offering innovative solutions for production issues and crop diseases.

TIKA’s partnership with SAU has previously facilitated several impactful projects, including:

  • Wheat Seed Distribution: Support for farmers affected by the devastating 2022 floods.
  • Home Gardening Kits: Empowering women in Karachi’s Lyari neighborhood in 2023.

The newly established 350 m² greenhouse is already attracting visitors from public and private institutions, underscoring its importance as a model for sustainable agriculture.

Dr. Marri expressed hope for further collaboration, emphasizing the potential benefits of leveraging Türkiye’s agricultural expertise. “This initiative not only strengthens academic research but also empowers farmers and supports Pakistan’s food security goals,” he concluded.
