Washington — The United States has approved a proposed arms deal with Australia, authorizing the potential sale of Javelin Lightweight Command Launch Units (LWCLUs) and associated equipment valued at $97.3 million, the Pentagon confirmed on Tuesday.
According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the deal aims to strengthen Australia’s defense modernization efforts while enhancing interoperability with U.S. and allied forces. The package includes spare parts, logistics support, and technical training to ensure operational efficiency of the Javelin system, a highly advanced, man-portable anti-tank guided missile designed by Raytheon and Lockheed Martin.
Defense officials highlighted that the sale will not disrupt the military balance in the Indio-Pacific but will bolster regional stability at a time of heightened strategic competition. Australia remains one of Washington’s closest allies in the Pacific, working in partnership with the U.S. on regional security initiatives.
The Javelin missile system is recognized globally for its precision strike capability against armored vehicles and fortifications, making it a critical asset for modern warfare. The Pentagon emphasized that the proposed sale reflects the deepening U.S.-Australia defense cooperation and aligns with broader efforts to ensure peace and security in the Indio-Pacific.
