U.S. Increases Pressure on Iran to Curb Nuclear and Missile Threats
The U.S. State Department has reaffirmed its commitment to countering Iran’s nuclear and missile programs, emphasizing that Washington will continue applying pressure on Tehran to eliminate these threats.
A spokesperson for the State Department confirmed that the U.S. government, under President Donald Trump, will not provide Iran with any financial or economic assistance. Additionally, the U.S. has decided not to renew Iraq’s exemption to purchase electricity from Iran, signaling a broader strategy to limit Tehran’s economic influence.
The U.S. official stated that the administration’s “maximum pressure” campaign is designed to dismantle Iran’s nuclear capabilities and reduce its ballistic missile program. The strategy also aims to curb Tehran’s support for terrorist organizations across the region.
Washington has urged the Iraqi government to swiftly reduce its reliance on Iranian energy supplies, aligning with efforts to isolate Iran economically.
This statement follows remarks from White House National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes, who reiterated that the U.S. could confront Iran through military force or diplomatic negotiations.
Hughes’ comments came in response to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who recently rejected U.S. overtures for dialogue. American officials insist their primary goal is to restrict Iran’s missile range and limit its regional influence.
