U.S. launched a large-scale crackdown on undocumented immigrants, 538 individuals arrest and deportation of hundreds
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has launched a large-scale crackdown on undocumented immigrants, resulting in the arrest of 538 individuals and the deportation of hundreds more.
White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt announced the development on social media platform X, stating, “The Trump administration has apprehended 538 undocumented criminals, and hundreds have been deported via military aircraft. The largest deportation operation in history is underway, fulfilling the promises made.”
During his re-election campaign, President Trump pledged to take stringent action against illegal immigration. Following his return to office, he issued executive orders aimed at strengthening border security and preventing unauthorized entry into the United States.
One of his first actions upon resuming office was declaring a “national emergency” at the southern border. The president has also reiterated his commitment to expelling “criminal aliens” and increasing the presence of military personnel along the border to curb illegal crossings.
However, the recent crackdown has sparked concerns among some officials and activists. Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka condemned a raid by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), stating that agents conducted the operation without warrants.
Among those arrested was a former U.S. military veteran. This action is a blatant violation of the U.S. Constitution,”* Baraka remarked.
Democratic Senators Cory Booker and Andy Kim also expressed deep concerns over the Newark operation, calling for transparency and accountability in immigration enforcement.
According to official statistics, the U.S. deported 271,484 undocumented immigrants in the fiscal year ending September 30, 2024—the highest number in over a decade.
The administration has also announced plans to reinstate the “Remain in Mexico” policy, which requires asylum seekers to stay in Mexico while their cases are processed in the U.S. Additionally, President Trump has proposed deploying more troops along the U.S.-Mexico border to further tighten security.
While supporters of the administration applaud these measures as necessary for national security, critics argue that such aggressive policies risk violating human rights and due process.
The immigration debate remains a polarizing issue in the United States, with both sides fiercely advocating their perspectives. As the administration moves forward with its plans, legal battles and public protests are expected to escalate in the coming months.
