U.S. President Joe Biden has reacted to the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli airstrike, urging a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon.
In a statement from Washington, President Biden said, “The death of Hassan Nasrallah in the Israeli strike marks a just outcome. With the Hezbollah leader’s demise, the process of justice is complete.”
He further stated, “This is a step toward justice for thousands of Americans, Israelis, and Lebanese citizens. Now, there should be a ceasefire in both Gaza and Lebanon.”
Biden reaffirmed his full support for Israel’s right to self-defense, emphasizing U.S. backing against Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthis, and Iranian-backed groups.
He added that he has instructed the Secretary of Defense to enhance U.S. military defense positions in the Middle East to prevent further aggression and reduce the risks of war.
The president concluded by stating that the U.S. aims to de-escalate ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon through diplomatic means.
