UAE to Host T20 Tournament from September 9 Under Hybrid Model

LAHORE — The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has officially confirmed that the 17th edition of the Asia Cup will take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 9 to 28, 2025. The tournament will be played under the T20 format in line with preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

Although India is the official host, the event will be staged in the UAE under a hybrid arrangement, similar to the 2023 model, due to continuing political tensions between India and Pakistan. The decision ensures that India and Pakistan will play at a neutral venue, maintaining competitive balance while addressing diplomatic constraints.

This year’s Asia Cup will feature eight teams:

• Group A: India, Pakistan, UAE, Oman
• Group B: Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong

The opening match will take place on September 9, with Afghanistan facing Hong Kong. The group stage concludes on September 19, featuring a key match between India and Oman.

A blockbuster clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan is scheduled for September 14 in the group stage. The two cricketing giants may also meet again in the Super Four stage on September 21, depending on results.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super Four, where they will compete in a round-robin format. The top two sides will advance to the final, to be held on September 28.

ACC President Mohsin Naqvi confirmed the tournament via social media:

> “I am delighted to confirm the dates for the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025 in UAE. The prestigious tournament will take place from September 9 to 28. We look forward to a spectacular display of cricket.”

The hybrid hosting model continues from the 2023 edition, where India opted not to travel to Pakistan, resulting in most matches being held in Sri Lanka. The 2025 format again avoids direct hosting conflicts between India and Pakistan by selecting UAE as a neutral venue.
