UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is under scrutiny after reports surfaced that he failed to disclose lavish gifts given to his wife by a prominent businessman.
The *Sunday Times* reveals that Waheed Ali, a major donor to the Labour Party, funded both the purchase and alterations of high-end clothing for Starmer’s wife. The Prime Minister, who took office in July, is alleged to have breached parliamentary regulations by not declaring these gifts.
According to parliamentary records, Starmer has received various donations from Ali, including items such as eyewear and work attire. However, the gifts to his wife were not listed in his financial disclosures.
A Downing Street spokesperson asserted that Starmer and his team had adhered to regulations and that additional items had been disclosed in recent updates.
Ali, a former chairman of British fashion retailer ASOS, has been a significant figure in Labour Party funding.
The House of Commons mandates that MPs fully disclose all financial interests. The Conservative Party has called for a thorough investigation, labeling the non-disclosure as a serious breach of parliamentary rules.
