Russia-Ukraine War
The recent Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian military airfields have dramatically heightened the risk of broader conflict, according to US Special Envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg.
Speaking on Fox News, Kellogg warned that Ukraine’s attacks targeted strategic components linked to Russia’s nuclear deterrence, increasing the danger of unpredictable retaliation from Moscow.
“The risk levels are going way up,” Kellogg stated. “When you strike parts of an opponent’s national survival system — their nuclear triad — you’re stepping into highly volatile territory. You don’t know how the other side will react.”
Kellogg emphasized that the United States is working to limit escalation and prevent the war from expanding beyond its current scope. However, he acknowledged that Ukraine is now willing to take bolder steps on the battlefield.
“They’ve shown a willingness to escalate and raise risks that could be unacceptable to Russia,” Kellogg noted.
According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, the Kyiv regime launched first-person view (FPV) drone attacks on multiple Russian airfields on June 1, targeting installations in the Murmansk, Irkutsk, Ivanovo, Ryazan, and Amur regions.
While most attacks were repelled, several aircraft caught fire due to the strikes. Authorities confirmed that the fires were quickly extinguished, no casualties were reported, and multiple suspects were apprehended.
