UN and Islamic Coalition Sign Strategic Partnership to Counter Terrorism
In a major step toward global security, the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) and the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNCCT) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen international cooperation against terrorism and violent extremism.
The signing ceremony, held at the UN headquarters in New York, saw IMCTC Secretary-General Major General Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi and UN Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism Vladimir Voronkov formalizing the agreement.
Al-Moghedi emphasized that this MoU marks a significant milestone in IMCTC’s commitment to combating terrorism, enhancing cross-border collaboration, and reinforcing international security frameworks.
“By partnering with the UN, we aim to advance expertise sharing, enhance member states’ security capabilities, and counter emerging threats more effectively,” Al-Moghedi stated.
The agreement outlines strategic collaboration in critical areas such as:
- Specialized law enforcement training to boost counter-terrorism efforts.
- Technical assistance programs tailored for IMCTC member states.
- Capacity-building initiatives to strengthen national security infrastructures.
- Exchange of best practices in countering extremist ideologies.
- Joint meetings, projects, and activities addressing global security threats.
Voronkov highlighted that the partnership underscores the UN’s unwavering commitment to working with international coalitions to mitigate security challenges worldwide.
This strategic alliance reinforces global counter-terrorism frameworks, ensuring better coordination between the Islamic coalition’s military expertise and the UN’s global counter-terrorism strategies.
By fostering multilateral cooperation and intelligence-sharing, this MoU is expected to bolster security measures and aid in preventing violent extremism worldwide.
