UN Military Observers Arrive in Muzaffarabad to Assess Post-Strike Situation
A team of United Nations Military Observers arrived in Muzaffarabad on 7 May to assess the ground situation following recent Indian military strikes in the region.
Observers were deployed in India and Pakistan under the mandate of the United Nations Military Observer Group (UNMOGIP). Their visit comes amid escalating tensions between the two countries after India conducted unprovoked cross-border strikes, targeting civilian areas in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The UN observers met with local officials and security personnel to evaluate the damage caused by the strikes and collect firsthand accounts from affected residents. The visit aims to monitor ceasefire violations and ensure compliance with the UN Charter and international peacekeeping protocols.
Officials in Muzaffarabad welcomed the presence of the observers, viewing it as a step toward exposing the realities on the ground and bringing global attention to India’s aggression. The observers are expected to submit a detailed report to the UN Headquarters in New York.
The Government of Pakistan has consistently urged the international community, including the UN, to take notice of India’s repeated violations of international law and its threats to regional peace.
