UN Secretary-General Warns Lebanon on the Brink of Large-Scale War

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has sounded the alarm, warning that Lebanon is on the brink of a large-scale conflict. He called for all nations to respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in light of escalating tensions in the region.

In his remarks at the United Nations, Guterres highlighted the deteriorating situation, pointing out that the recent violence has turned the occupied West Bank into a “flashpoint” and has led to the deaths of over 2,000 individuals in Israel’s attacks on Lebanon.

He emphasized the urgent need to de-escalate tensions, stating, “Lebanon is at the edge of a broader war.” Guterres criticized the lack of attention given to his previous warnings, stressing that every attack jeopardizes the prospects for peace.

The Secretary-General reiterated the UN’s calls for a ceasefire in both Gaza and Lebanon, the release of prisoners, and the delivery of humanitarian aid. He affirmed that these efforts will remain a priority for the UN.

Stressing the importance of a two-state solution, Guterres declared that all individuals in the region deserve the right to live in peace.
