United States Deploys Second THAAD Defense System to Israel Amid Escalating Iran Tensions
The United States has delivered a second Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile system to Israel, according to a report by Al-Hadath. The deployment is part of growing American military efforts in the region amid renewed threats directed at Iran.
The advanced air defense unit landed at Nevatim Airbase in Israel’s Negev Desert on Saturday via a U.S. C-5M Super Galaxy military aircraft. The base, which has previously been targeted in Iranian missile strikes, is considered a key location for U.S.-Israeli defense cooperation.
The arrival of the second THAAD system follows a previous deployment in 2024 and marks a deepening of U.S. military support for Israel. U.S. troops are also stationed in the country to operate the system, which is designed to intercept ballistic missiles during their final phase of flight.
This latest deployment comes ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s high-profile visit to Washington, where he is expected to meet with President Donald Trump. Key topics include Iran’s regional activities, nuclear threats, efforts to secure a hostage agreement, and coordination on international legal challenges, according to a statement from Netanyahu’s office.
