The United States military announced that it has struck more than 800 targets in Yemen since mid-March, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of Houthi fighters, as efforts intensify to curb the group’s attacks on international shipping routes in the Red Sea.

Pentagon spokesperson Major General Patrick Ryder confirmed during a press briefing that US and allied operations have significantly degraded the Houthi’s military capabilities.

“Since March 17, the United States has conducted strikes against over 800 Houthi-associated targets,” Ryder stated. “These actions have neutralized critical threats and inflicted substantial casualties among Houthi forces.”

The strikes have targeted a wide range of assets, including:

  • Missile launch sites
  • Drone facilities
  • Radar systems
  • Ammunition depots

The United States accuses the Iranian-backed Houthi movement of jeopardizing vital maritime trade routes by repeatedly targeting commercial vessels and naval ships in the region. According to military officials, these operations are part of a broader strategy to protect global commerce and ensure freedom of navigation through the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

Heavy Houthi Losses

Major General Ryder noted that the strikes have caused “hundreds” of Houthi casualties, although he did not provide an exact figure. Intelligence sources suggest that the group’s operational capabilities have been severely hampered, though they continue to pose a threat.

Despite the losses, Houthi leaders have vowed to continue their campaign, which they claim is in solidarity with Palestinians amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza. However, US officials insist that Houthi attacks primarily threaten international shipping and stability in the broader Middle East.

International Support

The United States is not acting alone. Operation Prosperity Guardian, a multinational coalition involving the United Kingdom, France, and other allies, is working to safeguard the Red Sea corridor.
The coalition’s efforts have been widely supported by the international community, with the United Nations emphasizing the importance of maintaining secure global trade routes.

Continued Vigilance

US officials warned that while progress has been made, the situation remains fluid. The Pentagon emphasized that the US military will continue to take necessary actions to deter further threats and protect maritime traffic.

“Our commitment to ensuring the security of vital international waterways remains steadfast,” said Ryder. “We will continue to act decisively against any entity that threatens this objective.”

The Houthi conflict in Yemen, which has raged for nearly a decade, remains a major source of regional instability. Recent US military operations mark one of the most sustained campaigns against the Houthis in years, highlighting Washington’s heightened focus on securing critical global trade routes.
