US Suspension of WHO Funds Freezes $46 Million for Gaza Health Operations

A Trump administration decision to suspend funding to the World Health Organization (WHO) has resulted in a $46 million freeze on WHO operations in Gaza, a top regional WHO official confirmed.

Dr. Rik Peeperkorn, WHO’s representative for the Occupied Palestinian Territories, stated that the funding freeze would impact six key areas, including:

  • Emergency Medical Teams (EMT) operations
  • Rehabilitation of health facilities
  • Medical evacuations
  • Coordination with partner organizations

Despite the financial restrictions, WHO activities in Gaza continue, with efforts to secure alternative funding.

WHO spokesperson Tarik Jasarevic noted that global impacts of the US funding cuts remain unclear but acknowledged the significant challenges posed to critical health services in Gaza and beyond.
